In 1983 most windsurfer sails were simple triangle shaped sails that maybe had one or two battens to stabilise the leech of the sail. But sailors were becoming more radical in their style and started to need sails that could perform in high winds and surf. The Neil Pryde HiPower is one of those sails. Whilst still a primarily 'soft sail' (fully battened Neil Pryde sails didnt arrive until 1984 with the UltraNova range; this HiPower sail was available in different sizes and had an eye to more radical sailing.

Here is a video showing the 1983 Neil Pryde Hi Power 5.4sqm sail with the 1985 Mistral Malibu. The video was recorded on Feb 11th 2026
The sail handled as you would expect.
PRO's Quite powerful, Light weight
CON's Some flapping on the bottom edge of the sail in strong wind, Some difficulty going upwind when over-powered (IE the classic 'backing' of the sail where you have to push he mast hand away from yourself.
Overall a fun experience and worked quite well with the Malibu
